Freelander confirmed for Australia as Chery plots multi-brand push

The Chery-JLR joint venture's new premium electrified SUV brand has Australia in its sights for 2027 – and a separate distribution entity is already being built for Jetour, another Chery-affiliated brand heading this way.

Freelander is heading Down Under. Less than a fortnight after its global debut in Shanghai, the brand has now been confirmed for the Australian market.

Chery Australia told TheAutoExec that the Chery-JLR joint venture's new premium NEV brand is planned for a 2027 local launch, with distribution expected to sit under the Chery Group operation. Retail strategy is still being developed. No details are available on timing for that year, nor on which models will form the local lineup.
