AutoExec Summary

New data from the Royal Automobile Association (RAA) reveals that having your car hit while parked is the most common reason for insurance claims, accounting for over 10,000 claims annually (18% of motor-related claims). This surpasses other common claims such as collisions with fixed objects (17%), windscreen damage (16%), and rear-end collisions (12%). In the 2022-23 financial year, more than $250 million was paid out in car insurance claims. Jess Lyons, Head of Claims at RAA Insurance, advises drivers to collect details from the at-fault driver to potentially have their excess waived. Additionally, AAMI Insurance reports that car park incidents rose 22% in 2022-23, peaking in December.
