AutoExec Summary
A research project initiated by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) is focusing on assessing the usability of lane support systems in vehicles. The program aims to evaluate the effectiveness and integration quality of Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) systems in already safety star rated vehicles. The investigation was prompted by consumer feedback expressing concerns about the distracting nature of Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) in their cars. ANCAP’s CEO, Carla Hoorweg, emphasized the importance of improving the functionality and calibration of these safety systems to ensure consumer acceptance and prevent them from being turned off. The results of the pilot project will be shared with manufacturers to inform refinements to ANCAP’s test protocols for 2026-2028. Additional vehicle models will also be examined using the same research criteria throughout the year.
Brands mentioned: Mitsubishi.
