AutoExec Summary
Tesla has recalled nearly 35,000 vehicles due to a manufacturing defect in the bonnet latch assembly of certain Model 3 and Model Y cars. The defect may cause the bonnet to not fully close, leading to a potential obstruction of the driver’s view while driving, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries. This recall comes amidst a significant drop in Australian sales for Tesla, with July sales down 34% compared to the previous year. The decrease in sales is attributed to competition from Chinese newcomer BYD and other traditional manufacturers offering more affordable electric vehicles. Tesla responded by reducing prices, angering existing owners concerned about their resale values. The brand is facing tough competition from Chinese EV brands and established manufacturers launching cheaper “made-in-China” EVs. Tesla plans to fix the defect through an over-the-air software update for affected vehicles.

Brands mentioned: Tesla, BYD, Hyundai, Kia, XPeng, Leapmotor, Zeekr.
