AutoExec Summary
The Toyota Tundra testing and validation program is almost finished, with the final vehicles in the 280-strong testing fleet now on their way to customers as approval to sell the model in Australia looms. Almost all 280 evaluation vehicles are now on Australian roads, with the Tundra Insider Program well underway. 280 customers were selected by Toyota Australia to participate in the evaluation period, leasing the vehicle for $2500 per month and reporting back to Toyota regularly. While Toyota won’t officially confirm, news from the brand is expected soon, as the first vehicles were tested in December last year. The Tundra remanufacturing program, led by Walkinshaw in Victoria, is the only one of its kind globally and required significant investment. Toyota Australia’s VP of Sales and Marketing, Sean Hanley, stated, “we are not doing this not to launch the car…” indicating a launch is imminent. In February, an auto industry pricing report featured the Toyota Tundra ute at $145,990, making it more expensive than rivals like the Ram 1500, Ford F-150, and Chevrolet Silverado.
