In 2002, Holden aimed to become a luxury brand to compete with BMW, Audi, and Mercedes, but ended up producing cars for Daewoo and American law enforcement agencies. Plans were made to rebadge the Holden Statesman and Caprice as Daewoo vehicles for the Korean market. Holden also considered creating a new luxury brand to fill the gap in their lineup between the Calais and Statesman models. However, this idea never materialized. Ultimately, Holden exported their luxury sedan models to South Korea and the Middle East under the Daewoo and Chevrolet brands, as well as to the US as police patrol vehicles.
