AutoExec Summary
BMW has announced that their next electric vehicle models will be the i5 large sedan and wagon, as well as the iX2 compact SUV. These models will be released alongside traditional internal combustion engine versions, similar to the 4-Series/i4, 7-Series/i7, and X1/iX1. The i5, an electric version of the 5 Series sedan, is expected to launch in Germany soon and in Australia by 2024. Additionally, a wagon version called the i5 Touring will be available in Europe. BMW’s chairman, Oliver Zipse, also confirmed that an M Performance version of the i5 will be released. The iX2, a sporty-styled version of the iX1 small SUV, will begin production in Germany late this year and launch in Australia in 2024. Zipse predicts that EVs will account for over 50% of BMW’s worldwide sales before 2030, and that the company is prepared for a potential ban on internal combustion engine sales.
