AutoExec Summary
The new Mitsubishi Triton will be available with a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid system, joining the 2024 BYD ute and 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV. The PHEV system is being developed because the existing design is not suitable for the Triton’s heavy-duty off-road capabilities. The system will be similar to the P2 modular design used by the Jeep 4XE and Land Rover/Range Rover. The PHEV system will employ a petrol engine and be available for other Mitsubishi 4x4s. Mitsubishi’s alliance partners Nissan and Renault may also want access to the tech. Although Mitsubishi plans to have a pick-up BEV by 2028, a pure battery electric version of the Triton is not feasible for some years yet.
Brands mentioned: Mitsubishi, BYD, Ford, Jeep, Land Rover, Range Rover, Nissan, Renault
