Summary: Despite being a sales failure with only 2,650 units sold from 1959 to 1964, the Daimler SP250 ‘Dart’ featured an impressive 2548cc V8 engine designed by Edward Turner. Producing 140bhp, it was even adopted as a high-speed patrol car by some police forces. Jaguar later acquired Daimler and successfully utilised the engine in the V8-250, which was praised for its superior handling compared to the straight-six model.
